Question by kelseycantsmile: underground london themed bedroom?
i moved into my house about a year ago, and my parents have been too lazy to decorate.. at all. i recently asked them if i could paint my room, and they refused. it was stupid. my room is this boring neutral tan color, as my carpet is tan too. very very boring. i’m still working on convincing them to paint it, but in the meantime i need ideas to spice it up without painting. I want a underground/london themed room. what things can i get to go with the idea? i went to england five years ago and took some pictures, theres google where i can get pictures. have a union jack i can put up. i’m looking for a (cheap) wall mural poster that would fill up most of the wall behind my bed of a graffiti’ed subway or something of that sort. does anyone know of any places i can get one of those? i can print off some pics of bands (lots of beatles and that kind of thing) /get some posters. what else can i do? curtains? duvet covers? what is there that would be cool?
when i visited england, i really LOVED the style of the underground subways. it was so funky and urban etc, and i would love to incorperate that into my bedroom somehow. i want to smother my walls with rock posters of stuff like queen, the clash, the who, the beatles, john lennon, REM, etc. (yes, i’m only fifteen but i am fascinated by the yesterday’s music. i’m thinking about covering my door and closet doors with a london/band/whatever fits with the theme collage type of thing. its gonna be pretty sweet. i found the union jack in the garage.. putting that up later today.

The Fun House was a NYC night club. It opened in the late 70′s. These pictures were taken 1982-84. This video highlights the BACKDROP ART of the Fun House which was upstaged at the time by the sound system, music and lifestyle. Question by Neil A.: Anyone know what this house is?
Ok, I’m not sure whether I saw this house on Chive.com or I-Am-Bored, but I can remember the house to a certain point:

The house was, I believe, located somewhere in Tennesee (or Texas?). From the outside, it’s looks like a completely normal house. However, just recently it was raided by the police because of what I believe was drug possession. After a more thorough search of the house, the police found a hidden door, which leads down to numerous rooms. As they progressed further in this area, they discovered that these rooms, located underground, was being used for marijuana production, I believe. The marijuana plants were just huge and practically everywhere. And then the hidden room’s exit is underneath a fake rock located in the backyard.

I would really appreciate it if anyone can send me a link on pictures of this house accompanied with pictures of the hidden room (along with it’s address). And just to clear things up, I do not want the drugs in the house. Instead, I’d like to BUY that house. I mean, come on: A hidden door leading to a secret area underground? Screw marijuana production, I’m making that my own personal Batcave!

Or, if you guys don’t know what I’m talking about, I’d really appreciate it if you’d send me some links leading to houses that display the features I described above.

Question by Matt: Small house with big underground living space?
So this is topic i was thinking of the other day.Me and my family are buying a house in about 4 days the owner has to repair it because he didnt have the best renters.Anyway i was looking for pictures of a small house maybe with a large underground living space because with a family of 8 its crazy.The idea i had was a 2 bed 1 bath and then a Large basement kind of thing to build rooms in so we have alot of yard.Any sort of blue prints or pictures of something like that.Thank you for your time i know i talk alot.

nah you said exactly the right amount… its a tough call because first of all… you got to make sure there is no mold or mildew growing down there before you decide to do anything to that area as far as finishing it off… You need to make sure you eliminate any mold spores which can be toxic over time and some are known to cause cancer. If there is a chronic issue down there you might need to tear out the walls to eliminate the problem.

You should have had it inspected by an environmental company BEFORE you buy it! In fact, if its not too late I would hold off on signing on the purchase until after you have it tested for mold and mildew. Sure, it might cost you a small bit of money but in the long run you might wind up saving thousands of dollars or pounds (whatever your countries currency). NOT TO MENTION SOME SERIOUS HEADACHES. Mold will quickly migrate into most building materials including cement and plastic, plaster, fresh paint, sheetrock, wood, rubber. So it potentially could just become a huge problem later on.

Often sellers will not inform buyers if there was a previous mold or mildew problem. They can knock down the problem temporarily (months to a year) by applying a bleach or clorine wash and then the spores that are deep ceded will eventually start a come back and next thing you know you got a serious cost and health issue. Basements are notorius for their mildew and mold issues because of their high humidity, poor air circulation and flooding. Be wise and know before you go.
